The Colorado Trail, Day 25. Saturday, August 23, 2025.

We stayed the night at the Hangout Hostel in the small town of Lake City, population 432. We’re staying here for one more night.

We’ve had a relaxing day, walking around the cozy old mining town with several old buildings from the 1800s.

There are about 14 guests here at the hostel, and everyone is hiking the Colorado Trail. Some went back to the trail today, and new ones came in. Most people are staying for two nights.

The weather doesn’t look great for the next six days. Thunderstorms and rain are in the forecast. That’s the type of weather we wanted to avoid for the next stretch. We considered staying here in town until the weather changes, but that could take almost a week.

During the day, we decided to go back to the trail tomorrow, Sunday. Six others from the hostel are also returning then. A shared ride has been booked for us at 7:00 a.m.
