GR131 Canary Islands, Day 10 – Thursday, Jan 22, 2026
We finished our trek across Fuerteventura yesterday. Early this morning, while it was still dark, we headed down to the harbor in Morro Jable and boarded the Fred. Olsen ferry. The ferry pulled away from the pier just as the sun was cresting the horizon, though clouds and rain ended up cheating us out of the view.
Two hours later, we stepped onto the pier in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, and caught a crowded bus down to Maspalomas. We’ve booked a bungalow here for two nights.
This means we get a bit of rest and relaxation before we head north across the island in two days, starting this Saturday.
The Route Ahead
The GR131 on Gran Canaria traditionally runs from Maspalomas to Agaete. However, last year they established a new starting point in Playa del Burrero, right by the airport. That version of the route is slightly shorter.
We’ve decided to stick with the original route from Maspalomas, but we want to avoid the paved road up to Ayagaures. Instead, we’re planning to hike up a valley just east of the one the road follows.
We are planning for a four-day trek across the island, covering roughly 75 km (46.6 miles) in total.
Hei! så utrolig spennende å lese om deres reiser, vi kom over bloggen deres ved en tilfeldighet idag, da vi møtte et engelsk par på tur på Gran Canaria som hadde truffet dere og fortalte om bloggen. Vi hadde tidligere denne uka stått bak dem i kø for å hente leiebil på flyplassen, så det var en arti tilfeldighet å plutselig møte dem igjen på stien fra Artenara til Tejeda. Dere er kanskje i Agaete samtidig som oss, så det var kjekt å “nesten” treffe dere 🙂 Håper Gran Canaria turen var flott, vi har oppdaget hvor utrolig fint det er her i fjellene. Hei! Takk for meldingen. Hyggelig at dere «følger» oss. Ja, det hadde vært trivelig å treffes, men vi gikk rett gjennom Agaete og rett til kaia.
